Sound Transit, in conjunction with the City of Shoreline, is in the planning and environmental review stage for the North Corridor light rail project, which will run north along I-5 from Northgate in Seattle to Lynnwood. Shoreline is likely to have two stations on this line at N 185th Street and either N 145th or N 155th Street. Sound Transit will analyze the alternatives in an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) study in preparation for construction scheduled to begin in 2017 with service opening in 2023.
In support of and response to this project, the City has begun the early stages of planning for the proposed station areas. The first step the City is taking in this planning process is the development of framework policies to guide the City’s future discussions and decisions regarding the planning and development of the areas surrounding light rail stations. On Monday, April 16, the City Council will hold an open house to receive public input on the framework policies, followed by a study session at their regular meeting on the same evening, with possible adoption on May 14.
The City’s framework policies will look within a ½ mile radius of the proposed stations as the areas to encourage development that supports the use of light rail, housing, services and employment to absorb Shoreline’s future growth. Using the framework policies, Shoreline’s station area planning will begin in 2013 with a robust public process to inform and receive your input on this important project.
