Development and Construction in Ballinger Neighborhood
Like many neighborhoods within a short commute to downtown Seattle and close proximity to I-5, we're in transition from suburban to urban.  Many construction projects are planned and underway.  Here's a list of current and pending projects, including information on upcoming review meetings and public hearings.   If you receive a public meeting or hearing announcement that we've missed, please email us, so we can post the information on our website.

Shoreline Schools Public Hearing on Aldercrest Annex

Monday, October 13, 2008 at 7 PM

Board Room at the Shoreline Conference Center

18560 First Avenue NE, Shoreline, WA

The Shoreline School Board will hold two public hearings on the proposed sales of property.  The Aldercrest Annex, also known as the Old Kellogg/ Grace Cole Education Complex at 2545 NE 200th is one of the properties.
These properties have previously been declared surplus and are no longer required for district purposes. The Board will receive evidence and comments for and against the advisability of the proposed sale.  For more information contact the Shoreline School District.

Public Hearing on Shoreline Development Code

Thursday, July 17th, 2008 at 7 PM

Mt. Rainier Room at the Shoreline Conference Center

18560 First Avenue NE, Shoreline, WA

Unlike Comprehensive Plan Amendments, revisions to the Shoreline Development Code may happen at any point during the year.  However, staff generally attempts to group proposed changes into bundles so that they may be deliberated and adopted at the same time instead of spread out in a piecemeal fashion.  This first packet consists of mostly housekeeping revisions suggested by those in the Planning and Development Services Department and the City Attorneys Office who work most closely with various sections of the Code.  The proposed changes are intended to aid in ease of enforcement, enhance customer service, clarify existing language to prevent confusion, redundancy and inconsistency, or to remain current with updated legal mandates and local policy changes.  Other bundles will be proposed later in the year, which may include more significant changes that involve multiple sections of code.  Additional notice and explanation will be given at that time.  If you would like more information about the revisions currently proposed, please contact Miranda Redinger at mredinger@ci.shoreline.wa.us or 206-801-2513.

Projects Under Construction

Brightwater Treatment Plant Project and the Ballinger Portal

Construction is taking place at five sites; the treatment plant site, and four portals in Bothell, Shoreline, Kenmore, and at Point Wells. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2010.  This includes the pipes and facilities that bring wastewater to and from the plant, and a marine outfall where treated wastewater is discharged to Puget Sound.

To limit disruptions, the system is being built almost entirely below ground in tunnels 40 to 400 feet deep. There are five shafts, called portals, where workers, tunnel boring machines, and materials enter and exit the tunnels during construction.
